Nicholas Sparks is known for his phenomenal love stories. I have read so many that I don't even remember the titles.
He recently had one of his books turned into a movie, The Lucky One.
It is a story of love between a soldier and a woman who has lost her husband.
Recently electronics such as Kindles & Nooks have become a must-have! I recently bought my mother one for Mothers Day, now all I have to do is show her step by step how to use it. I personally love having a physical book in my hand.
The new technologies though allow a person to download any book you want at the click of a button. There is no hassle of going to the store to purchase it! It's the beginning of a new age!
Recently the Topeka Public Library had a sale where you gave $5 to purchase a brown bag & as many books as you could fit in there, you kept! It was an amazing sale for a book lover.
All the thrifty spenders were there with their five dollars.
There have been an incredible number of classic comics being turned into movies.
Comics such as The Green Lantern, Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, and most recently the Avengers.
There's also the classic Batman, Superman, or Spiderman.
I would be greatly surprised though if anyone had looked at the actual comics before seeing the movies.
They are each unique and truly phenomenal.
Above is the trailer to the latest comic turned to movie, The Avengers.
The Twilight Series is a trilogy written by Stephenie Meyer & caused a huge sensation regarding vampires and wolves. In my opinion, it set off a huge flow of authors to write paranormal series for young adults.
The series is about hopeless love and most of the story is about 'everyday' events.
Teens flocked to this series almost as much as they did to the Harry Potter series.
All three books were made into movies, above is the one for the first books.
Mercedes Lackey is a phenomenal author of over 50+ books and has over a dozen series written by her. She is a fantasy/fiction author and clearly loves her work. She also does & has co-authored many books.
All of her books are stock full of elves, fairies, and creatures not seen in the natural world. Her imagination is amazing and knows no bounds. (Picasa Web Album below of some of her books covers).
The prequel to The Lord of the Rings is being made into a movie! It is a book about one Hobbits' adventures and looks to be an amazing movie! http://www.readingmatters.co.uk/book.php?id=71
Above is a link to a longer review/summary of The Hobbit if you're interested!
The Hunger Games has become a recent sensation. It a tale of a girl named Katniss and an overbearing type of government. I find it to be full of social commentary in a very witty way. The story is essentially a story of survival in the beginning, but is told in a very beautiful way.
They recently made a movie for the first one.
I think it is becoming a sensation like Harry Potter. There are two more books to this trilogy, that I am presuming will be made into movies as well. They are all superb.
Terry Goodkind is a sci-fi/fantasy author of more series than just The Sword of Truth, but I personally think The Sword of Truth series is the best. There is 12 books in this series, all based around the classic good & evil. The good in this series starts with a man/boy Richard Cypher, and there are also various additional characters that aid him in his quests. During the series there is more than one 'bad' guy trying to take control of everything. It is incredibly well written. In 2008 it was made into a television series called The Legend of the Seeker and two seasons were made.
Lemony Snicket is the author of this 13 book series. It starts with a book called "The Bad Beginning" and ends with a book named "The End". Lemony Snicket loads satire in his books (aimed mostly at young adults or children). In all of the books he starts off by warning you that what you are about to read is not a pleasant thing, and you should probably put the book down and pick up another. He does that throughout the whole book, in my point of view it just makes the stories more comical. He also does an amazing job of explaining the large words he uses, without fail. It is an incredible series about three young children, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny. The story revolves around 'the fires' that happen, including the one that killed their parents, and about a villainous man named Count Olaf. He is trying to steal their vast fortune and is willing to follow them anywhere and do anything to get it. It is an amazing series and the first three were made into one astounding movie.
The Lord of the Rings is a 3 book series written by J. R. R. Tolkien. There is another book called the Hobbit that came before the 3 books, but was not included within the series.
The Lord of the Rings books are fantasy novels all based around the power of a select few rings. Magic abounds in this fictional land and there is every type of fantasy creature to be found. Elves, dwarves, wizards, orks, humans, and many more. The series is based on a quest undertaken by a "fellowship" of all these races.
This series was such a sensation that high quality movies were made about them. Each movie is an incredibly long length, at least three hours long, if not more. All three movies have been made and here is a trailer from the last one.
I think the true #1 Series of this upcoming generation can easily be awarded to J.K. Rowling & all seven Harry Potter books. It is a Fantasy series about a magical young boy who discovers the world by finding out he is a wizard and accomplishing feats most wizards & witches thought impossible. It it truly a series about finding yourself and discovering what you are capable of.
The series includes many main characters & J.K. Rowling does an incredible job of sharing their whole stories as well. The books were such a sensation that all 7 books were made into movies, & just this past fall (fall 2011) the last movie of the series was made, & here is the trailer for it.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is truly a Magical Place. There is currently an amusement park in Orlando, Florida based off of the books. I bet many Harry Potter lovers visit with gusto.
Hello everyone, my name is Marissa and I will be sharing my love of books and telling you all why they are so amazing.
I will specifically be focusing on various series such as Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings. I will include clips from movies as well. Hopefully I will win more people over to them that way.
I will NOT be ruining the content of any of these books though. Just enough to pique your interest and hopefully make you go out and read it.
